History of Hadith Park After the establishment of the municipality, the municipal authority built 'Khulna Municipal Park' for the entertainment of the citizens. Later, on June 17, 1925, Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the non-violent movement, delivered a speech at the park and the park was renamed Gandhi Park in his honor. After the partition of the country on 14 August 1947, the park was renamed Jinnah Park for the reception of the Muslim League leaders. On 21 February 1969, Sheikh Hadisur Rahman Babu was shot dead by police during an anti-Pakistani dictatorship procession near the park. After the Janazah prayers of Shaheed Hadith on 22 February, the crowd named the park as "Shaheed Hadith Park".
