Built by Hazrat Khan Jahan (RA), this magnificent mosque is more than five centuries old and is situated about one and a half kilometers west of his Dargah. The mosque occupies a special place in the medieval architectural style with its architectural techniques and the decoration of herbs on red burnt soil.
Sixty Domes Mosque is an ancient mosque located in the southwest of Bagerhat district in the Khulna division of Bangladesh. There is no inscription on the mosque. So no accurate information is available about who built it or at what time it was built. However, looking at the various structures of the mosque, there is no doubt that it was built by Khan Jahan Ali. He is thought to have built it in the 15th century. This mosque was built over many years and at great expense. The stones were brought from the palace. It is one of the three World Heritage Sites in Bangladesh; The city of Bagerhat has been given the status of a World Heritage Site. This honor was conferred by UNESCO in 1975.
The size or length of the mosque It is said that Hazrat Khan Jahan (R) floated all the stones for the construction of Satgumbuj Mosque from Chittagong, far away from Chittagong, the royal palace of Orissa in India as his miraculous power. The special influence of Tughlaq architecture is observed in the variation of the structure of the building.
The mosque is about 180 feet long on the north-south side and about 143 feet long on the inside, and about 104 feet wide on the east-west side and about 6 feet wide on the inside. The walls are about 6 · 5 feet thick. The total number of domes in the sixty-domed mosque is 61, 11 in 7 lines, 6 in each and 4 in the four corners. In the evolution of time, 60 domes became popularly known as sixty domes, henceforth it is known as sixty domes.
